Creativity's Our Middle Name
We are a Product Development Studio in Bay of Plenty, New Zealand and have been creating and fine-tuning products for NZ companies since 1997. We became a Limited company in 2000.
Karen Malone has been teaching Product Development Classes since 1998; in polytechnics, business team building environments, community groups and private groups.
As well as classes, she has lectured in Nelson, Gisborne and Tauranga, specifically on; product labelling in NZ, how traditional herbalism can work together with modern medicine (comfrey is her favourite thing to lecture about), packaging pros and cons, massage products for students in training, natural product marketing and what not to do for a small business, health and safety in small business, council requirements for small business, and other related subjects.
Karen is Regional Representative for the NZ Register of Holistic Aromatherapists (NZROHA), and is committed to promoting the safe use of essential oils and herbs. She has a Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy from the Australasian College of Herbal Studies.
She is a specialist in the area of medical cannabis which is not yet legal in NZ, and very much looks forward to the day when she can develop products containing medical marijuana, for NZ companies. She has trained in this industry in advance and has a Master Certificate in Medical Cannabis.
Her specialty is Terpenes and tinctures.
Karen also has a Diploma in Herbal Consultancy, a Bachelor of Science, a Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, a National Certificate in Massage, and various other bits and pieces.
We offer a service of Product Endorsement, where Karen will take your product and assess every single aspect of it, to ensure it is safe and effective and suitable for your target market. This allows you to state that your product is either Herbalist-endorsed, Aromatherapist-endorsed, or both.
Astra also offers technical support in documentation - creating specification sheets for your products; sourcing SDS and Certificate of Analysis (COA) for raw ingredients; information and general support on raw materials; INCI names and other industry requirements.
As a side note, in her alternate existence Karen is a policy analyst, trainer, auditor and consultant in that exciting world of Health & Safety, Quality and Environment at INTL She spends many hours a week immersed in ISNet, Impac, SHE, SiteWise etc. etc. and if you need any help with that, head over to eSafety NZ Ltd
Wanting a Custom Designed Product for your event or business gifts? Or to label as your own brand? Give us some ideas of colours and scents and we can tailor-make a beautiful item or range just for you. We can even teach you to make it if you want to do that as well. Hourly rates apply.
Astra Balms, Scrubs, Perfumes, Soaps, Oils and Waxes are made to the client's requirements, with whatever exciting ingredients we can come up with together. Vegan is always an option. Hourly rates apply.
Skype conferences are something we do often. This process concludes with full training in how to make the products, complete ownership of all recipes, labeling advice/support, information regarding suppliers of ingredients/manufacturers, health and safety, and basic back-up support as you begin your own production.
It's Magic is our all-purpose balm, made by Karen since 1997. Containing local honeys, propolis and beeswax, it's a triple bee blend using magical mixology to combine with calendula, olive and grapeseed oils. Finished with a proprietary blend of lemon, teatree and lavender essential oils.
It's always helpful for "when you want to put something on that".
Astra Glycerin Soaps are crafted from the most natural Melt and Pour base we could find. Hypo-Allergenic, Vegan, Soy Free, Gluten Free, Non-Comedogenic, Biodegradable, No Animal Testing, Non GMO. This quality glycerin soap is made the old-fashioned way and most of our soaps are made to order, many are one-of-a-kind. We make our own molds from crystals found around NZ, and use micas to recreate the crystals in beautiful soap form.
Our Cold Process Soaps are traditionally handmade in small batches and use vegan ingredients; coconut, almond, olive and sunflower oils; cocoa and shea butters; essential oils (or cosmetic fragrances & glitter in the non-vegan versions). We also have a silk soap range. Our often not so traditional looking soaps are hand sliced or poured into single molds, and ingredients are from sustainable, cruelty-free sources.
